OLDHAM ATHLETIC are now up to 12 summer signings after making a double swoop on Tuesday.
Neighbours BURY have agreed to sell captain Peter Clarke to their League One rivals while Ollie Banks has joined the Latics from another of their league rivals, Chesterfield.
Clarke won several of Bury’s player-of-the-season awards after helping keep the Shakers clear of relegation trouble in their first season back in the third tier. The experienced centre-half had another year on his contract at Gigg Lane yet Bury have allowed him to leave.
The 34-year-old, who has made over 600 senior appearances for the likes of Huddersfield and Southend, has now signed a one-year deal with Oldham.
Banks, meanwhile, makes a return to Greater Manchester having earned a move to Chesterfield from FC United in 2013.
The 23-year-old went on to make 99 appearances for the Spireites, scoring 13 goals, and helped them win promotion to League One in 2014.
The former Rotherham trainee was released by Chesterfield so that he could join Oldham, with whom he has signed a two-year deal.
Both Clarke and Banks are available to feature in tonight’s friendly at home to Preston. We’ll have a round-up of tonight’s friendlies later.
