BOLTON came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory in their pre-season friendly at non-league Tranmere on Tuesday night.

Neil Eardley played the first half for Wanderers although fellow trialists Frazer Richardson and Gordon Greer were left on the bench.

Out-of-contract defender David Wheater also started in defence but he couldn’t prevent former Stalybridge, Stockport and Macclesfield striker Connor Jennings heading home after five minutes.

Manager Phil Parkinson changed the full XI in the second half, with Dorian Dervite among those coming on, and the French defender fired Bolton level with 20 minutes left.

Wanderers continued to threaten and they clinched victory in the final minute as Zach Clough, who replaced Gary Madine on 65 minutes, fired in a 25-yard strike.

OLDHAM suffered another home defeat to Championship opposition, with this time Preston winning 3-1.

The Latics were beaten by Huddersfield on Saturday but welcomed new signings Peter Clarke and Ollie Banks into the starting line-up on Tuesday night. Manager Steve Robinson again started with a 3-5-2 formation, only for Preston’s Eoin Doyle to convert a 20th-minute opener.

Joe Garner beat Clarke in the air to double the visitors’ lead on 70 minutes and although an unnamed trialist pulled one straight back for Oldham, Garner converted a 74th-minute penalty after Latics’ new loan signing Cameron Burgess was deemed to have fouled Jermaine Beckford.

Oldham’s League One rivals ROCHDALE didn’t field any trialists in their 1-1 draw at home to Blackburn.

Danny Graham’s early header put the Championship side in front before Donal McDermott equalised with a stunning free-kick just after the hour mark.
