WIGAN ATHLETIC return to the scene of one of last season’s most memorable games when they round off their pre-season campaign tonight.

The Latics travel to Fleetwood, where they recorded a valuable 3-1 victory over the festive period. It was the first-ever meeting between two Lancashire sides who both worked their way up from non-league, and the hosts drew level through a 69th-minute penalty by former Woodley Sports forward Antoni Sarcevic.

But Jordy Hiwula and Michael Jacobs struck in the last seven minutes to give Wigan victory. That was the second game in what proved to be a 20-match unbeaten run which propelled the Latics to the League One title.

As Gary Caldwell’s men prepare for their return to the Championship, they have won just one of their six friendlies so far – at Oldham on Tuesday night – although United and Liverpool were among their pre-season opponents.

ALTRINCHAM are also in action tonight and hope for their first pre-season win as they host a Burnley XI.

BOLTON have had an encouraging pre-season after being relegated to League One and Wanderers conclude their preparations tomorrow at home to Preston.

League One rivals BURY and OLDHAM are both hoping for a first pre-season win as they visit Blackpool and Grimsby, respectively.

MACCLESFIELD have a Cheshire derby as STOCKPORT COUNTY make the short trip to the Moss Rose while SALFORD CITY, who are expected to be one of County’s rivals for promotion from the National League North, visit Connah’s Quay Nomads.

CURZON ASHTON aim to break their pre-season duck at home to Guiseley and STALYBRIDGE CELTIC will be pleased if they can repeat last week’s win over Accrington as they host Barrow.

ASHTON UNITED take an unbeaten pre-season record to Witton Albion and HYDE UNITED continue their busy summer schedule with a visit from Wrexham.

The Tigers’ new Evo-Stik North rivals MOSSLEY and DROYLSDEN both hit the road, to face  Congleton Town and AFC Darwen, respectively.
