MACCLESFIELD TOWN will kick off their new campaign with a home game against Torquay United.

The National League fixtures were announced on Wednesday and Macc will open the 2016/17 season at the Moss Rose on August 6.

Three days later the Silkmen visit York City, who have just been relegated back into non-league, and their first Saturday away day will be at Braintree Town.

With Altrincham being relegated to the National League North, Macc have lost one of their derbies this term but they will host local rivals Chester FC on Tuesday, October 25, with the reverse fixture on Tuesday, March 21.

The Silkmen’s festive double-header is against Tranmere Rovers, with manager John Askey taking his side to the Wirral on Boxing Day before hosting Rovers on New Year’s Day.

Macclesfield finished 10th last term after a positive finish to the campaign and they are hoping to improve on that having kept most of last season’s squad intact while making some promising additions.

They announced the signing of goalkeeper Craig Ross from Whitehawk this week, along with the appointment of former Newcastle and Everton defender Steve Watson as their new assistant manager, replacing former Macc defender Efe Sodje.
