MACCLESFIELD TOWN look to be heading in the right direction after enjoying a 3-0 win in their latest pre-season friendly yesterday.

The Silkmen fielded several trialists at Nantwich Town including Emmett O’Connor, who bagged a second-half brace after summer signing Kingsley James fired in a 59th-minute opener.

After losing their first friendly at Buxton, Macc won 3-1 at Leek then drew 0-0 at home to Wigan in midweek, and their last two friendlies are both at home, against Rochdale (Tuesday) and Stockport County (Saturday).

COUNTY gave their build-up a lift, bouncing back from two successive defeats to win 4-1 at home to Blackburn’s Under-21 side.

John Marsden scored a well-taken opener from a Kayode Odejayi knock-down before Danny Lloyd converted a penalty after being fouled for the spot-kick. Blackburn pulled one back with 10 minutes left before County sub Josh Amis also converted a penalty after being brought down.

Trialist Craig Carney then caught the eye with a 25-yard strike to round off the scoring for the Hatters, who host Wigan’s Under-21 side on Tuesday.

SALFORD CITY continued their busy pre-season campaign with a 1-0 home defeat by Hampton & Richmond Borough. The Ammies have now lost two and won three of their warm-up games before hosting a United XI on Tuesday.

ALTRINCHAM lost 2-1 to a United XI on Friday night having drawn their previous three friendlies. Damian Reeves scored his third goal of pre-season only for United to hit back with a goal in each half. The Robins host Crewe and a Burnley XI next week.

CURZON ASHTON shared the Tony Downes Memorial Trophy with DROYLSDEN after Niall Cummins’ early header for the Nash was cancelled out in the second half.

ASHTON UNITED are next up for the Nash on Tuesday, with the Robins having drawn 2-2 at Clitheroe yesterday, new signings Shelton Payne and Sam McMahon scoring in each half.

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC enjoyed a 4-1 home win against a weakened Accrington side, with Adam Farrell, Darius Osei, Danny Pilkington and Aaron Chalmers (penalty) scoring, while Tom Greaves gave FC UNITED a 1-0 home win over Hereford FC.

An experimental HYDE UNITED team lost 3-1 at Stockport Town while TRAFFORD played out a 1-1 draw at home to Chorley. MOSSLEY lost 4-3 at Liversedge and NEW MILLS played out a 0-0 draw at home to RAMSBOTTOM UNITED.
