ASHTON UNITED face an early test of their title credentials in the Evo-Stik Premier on Tuesday night.
The Robins remain unbeaten after three games after chalking up another win on Saturday, when Tunji Moses gave them an early lead at home to Hednesford before Chris Baguley sealed a 2-0 victory late on.
Ashton are now set to take on one of their potential promotions rivals as they must make the long trip up to Blyth Spartans. The North East outfit were the pre-season title favourites and made light work of Halesowen Town on Saturday, romping to a 5-0 win in the West Midlands.
Blyth go into the game fourth and Ashton are joint-second with Hednesford so the winners could go top of the table, albeit at a very early stage in the season.
There were no Evo-Stik North fixtures at the weekend due to the FA Cup, but NEW MILLS got back to winning ways in the North West Counties Premier.
The Millers look to have put last season’s nightmare behind them after beating Barnton 6-1, with Haydn Foulds and Daniel Douglas-Pringle each bagging a brace, to register their second win from three league games.
ABBEY HEY suffered a second straight 3-0 defeat at Hanley Town on Saturday but the Gorton-based outfit hope for a boost on Tuesday night as they visit second-bottom Nelson, who haven’t scored yet after three league games.
In the First Division, STOCKPORT TOWN host a PRESTWICH HEYS side which has seven points from a possible 12 since coming up from the Manchester League this summer.
