WIGAN rounded off their pre-season campaign in style by romping to a 4-3 win at Fleetwood on Friday. The Latics had scored just twice in their previous six friendlies, of which they won one and lost three, so hitting four at Highbury will be a good confidence boost ahead of this Saturday’s season opener.

David Ball gave the hosts an early lead, only for Max Power to equalise from a tight angle before youth graduate Luke Burke and Yanic Wildschut scored two in three minutes for Wigan.

A lively start to the second half saw Ball pull one back before Michael Jacobs, who came on for Wildschut at the break, fired home to make it 4-2 on 52 minutes. Moments later Sam Morsy tripped Ball, with Bobby Grant thumping in the penalty, but Wigan ensured they got another win under their belt before their Championship return begins at Bristol City this Saturday.

ALTRINCHAM drew 0-0 with a Burnley XI on Friday and visit Witton Albion for their final friendly tonight, while BOLTON also played out a goalless draw as they hosted Preston in their final friendly on Saturday.

ROCHDALE won 3-0 at FC UNITED after first-half goals by Sanmi Odelusi and Scott Tanser were followed up by Andy Cannon, and BURY led 1-0 at Blackpool through a Kelvin Etuhu strike early in the second half, only for Brad Potts to level at the death to earn a 1-1 draw.

OLDHAM paid STALYBRIDGE CELTIC an undisclosed fee to sign Darius Osei in time for the young striker to feature as a late substitute in the Latics’ final friendly at Grimsby. And although left-back Jamie Reckord cancelled out a first-half opener for Grimsby, Dominic Vose converted an 80th-minute free-kick to give the hosts a 2-1 victory.

Chris Holroyd and Danny Rowe scored in each half as MACCLESFIELD won 2-0 at home to Cheshire rivals STOCKPORT COUNTY, while new signing Matt Warburton headed in a late equaliser to earn SALFORD CITY a 1-1 draw at Connah’s Quay.

Connor Hampson and Niall Cummins gave CURZON ASHTON a 2-0 lead at home to Guiseley but the hosts fought back for a 2-2 draw. The Nash play their final friendly at home to a Sheffield United XI tomorrow night.

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC rounded off their pre-season with a 2-0 win at home to Barrow, Andy Owens and Kurt Sherlock scoring late on, although ASHTON UNITED lost 2-1 at Witton Albion.

HYDE UNITED lost 2-1 at home to Wrexham after a late winner by the visitors while MOSSLEY won 2-1 at Congleton Town and DROYLSDEN triumphed 4-0 at AFC Darwen.
