THERE can be no complacency among the WIGAN ATHLETIC keepers this season after manager Gary Caldwell brought in another goalie today.
Latics already had veteran Jussi Jaaskelainen and youngster Lee Nicholls in their ranks but the pair will receive further competition from Adam Bogdan.
The Hungary international has joined Wigan on a season-long loan from Liverpool after undergoing a medical on today.
The 28-year-old played second fiddle to Jaaskelainen at Bolton before becoming their first-choice keeper in January 2012.
Although he was unable to keep Wanderers in the Premier League that season, he was named player of the year for both club and country in 2012.
Bogdan continued to impress in the Championship with Bolton before earning a free transfer to Liverpool last summer.
However, he was mainly used as cover for Simon Mignolet and after making just six appearances for the Premier League giants, he missed out on Hungary’s Euro 2016 squad.
Bogdan has joined up with the Wigan squad ahead of tonight’s friendly away to Vanarama National League side Macclesfield.
Summer signing Richard O’Donnell started last season in goal for Latics but lost his place to Jaaskelainen. The 27-year-old was then loaned out to Championship side Bristol City, a move which he made permanent this summer.
Jaaskelainen went on to make 35 league appearances as Latics romped to the League One title last term and the 41-year-old must now renew his friendly rivalry with Bogdan.
