Young set to start Altrincham reign

Altrincham FC
ALTRINCHAM will be one of the first Greater Manchester sides to return to action this summer when they play their first pre-season game today.

Neil Young is set to oversee his first match as Alty boss as the Robins visit North West Counties side Widnes FC.

The former Stockport County manager was appointed just two days after Alty’s relegation from the Vanarama National League was confirmed, giving him as much time as possible to revamp the Robins’ squad.

Several members of the squad that Lee Sinnott led to promotion from the National League North in 2014 moved on, although Young managed to convince prolific striker Damian Reeves to stay at the J.Davidson Stadium.

Fellow forward James Lawrie also remains while Young has brought in former Stockport pair Danny Hattersley and Craig Hobson up front, although both had left County before Young took charge.

Other newcomers include ex-Accrington keeper Andrew Dawber, Rochdale youngster Billy Hasler-Cregg and former AFC Fylde captain Tom Hannigan.

The Robins now have 18 players in their first-team squad and are set to kick off their National League North campaign at home to Darlington 1883 on August 6.
